Dear Penpal,My name is Hannah Dawson and I am currently a student at Western Washington University. I plan on Majoring in Langauge, Literacy, and Cultural Studies for Elementary Education. Do you go to school or work? What are your goals for the future? I am also interested in learning another language but haven't quite committed to one yet. I have shown greatest interest in learning French and Korean. What language do you speak?
A few of my hobbies are connected to my interest in other languages. Such as, watching foreign films and listening to foreign music. I also enjoy playing the piano, sewing clothes and stuffed animals, and throwing pottery. Do you have any hobbies?
I look forward to your reply,
Hannah
Dear penpal,
ReplyDeleteI am sad to see that you haven't written back to me yet. It has been pretty hectic around campus this week though. Did you do anything fun over the holiday weekend? I stayed in and did some homework. I was really excited when it snowed! My friend and I decided that we wanted to make an igloo, but we ended up giving up after an hour or so. How have you been enjoying the snow? It's made trips a bit harder for me. My computer died and I had to go across town twice to drop it off and pick it up. The snow was really cold and wet on those long walks from the bus stops. I look forward to reading your reply,
Hannah

Daer penpal,
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited to hear from you. I definitely get how you feel about the snow. Secretly I am happy that it is gone because I don't have to wear my snow boots everyday, and if I want to go somewhere I don't have to be scared about buses breaking down. I still want to know more about you though. What are you doing over here at Western? Where are you from? I'm from Vancouver, Washington which is right across the river from Portland, Oregon. I am still getting used to life over here because this is my first quarter. How long have you been here for?
I can't wait to hear back from you,
Hannah

ReplyDeleteI, generally speaking, am pretty well known for being hard on electronics, so this is actually an area that I know a but about. Next time you buy an Apple product I recommend buying the 3 year warranty. It's most definitely worth it and covers just about anything. When my computer died during the snow days I took it over to a place by Walmart Called TDCurran, but somebody else said that they would have sent me to Blaines. I am super excited to hear that you are from South Korea because I have been pretty interested in there. And right now my project for this class is on South Korean experience learning English language and culture. What has been most difficult for you about America?
ReplyDeleteI received your reply in my email, but for some odd reason it's not showing up here. I'm very sorry that you've been having troubles over here. I thought that I;d let you know that it always isn't such a good experience for everybody over here at first. My mom was the ESL (English as a Second Langauge) staff assistant at a few middle schools when I was growing up, so I got to know a few of the other kids through my mom's stories and the time I spent in her class after school. There was one girl in particular who was going through something similar. She grew up in Japan and her dad's job forced them to move over here, she did not want to come. But she had to and she had learned english all throughout school, but when she came over here she felt like she hadn't learned anything at all. I think that part of the reason it's that way is because she learned it in school and that doesn't work as well as acquiring it from your environment. It takes a long time to learn a language, and from what I'm seeing you are doing well. On a different note, do you have anything cool that you would like to share with me about life in Korea? I'm very curious.
ReplyDeleteum. what do you want to know in korea? i will talk to you about korea food. have you eaten kimchi? The most famous thing is Kimchi, spicy vegetables, this is the most famous, but the lesser famous are things like cultural clothes, bulgogi and some instruments. and these days, many asian people like to listen K-pop music. additionly, in korea we have many different drinking bar. for example, tranditional bar, fusion bar, there are so mamy different bars. moreover, drinking bar is usually closed at 3 AM.and in korea, you can sing English&korean&japaness karaoke, billiards and a game center in the bar. is it fun? i think if you want to know abot korea, you should visit in korea!!!! that would be fun!! after 2 days, it is coming valentine day!! are you prepareing something for someone?? i have boyfriend in korea. so i made card for him. ah!!! i saw Drag Show on campus. have you seen that?
ReplyDeleteI have eaten kimchi and I love it! I actually plan on going to Korea to teach after I graduate, because I think it would be a good experience. I think that the karaoke sounds like lots of fun. I'm super excited about Valentines day because I'm making valentines for my whole floor because I haven't met most of the people who live here, and I think t might be a fun introduction. Sadly, though, I just broke up with my boyfriend this monday so I don't really have anything special other than that. I actually tried to go to the drag show, but they were all sold out! So instead we went to an improv musical and that was really fun. I also went to the buried life event this week, and that was super fun! What's your favorite place to eat around here?
ReplyDeleteim sorry that!! i have facorite place in downtown restaurant. the place is next to pitapi?. anyway, the restaurant sell burrito. i like a shrimp burrito!! that is my favorite menu but it is so expensive than other burrito. :( how was your weeken? last friday my sis visited my apartment and we hung out. we have been in vencouver and seattle outlet. i bought my swimming suit for this summer!! i love summer. i don't like cold and windy. even if i don't like sweat, i can wear preety clother. among my clothers have preety and variety design summer clother. so i like summer. as result i bought summer clother. i tried to look for your name on facebook but i couldn't find you!! it might be toward the end of the penpal, we can see each other. these days i wasted my time so i need to catch up own time so i have to memorize words for conversation. i try to use new vocabulary but it is so hard. :( tell me how do i use words corretly!!!Lol! hahahaha do you mind telling me your facebook name.~
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to eat at many places off campus because of the meal plan but I really wanted to check out that place and this Russian Dumpling place as well. I went home for the weekend because I was able to catch a ride, and I made Muffins! I love the warmer months as well, because I like wearing flowy dresses and clothes with floral patterns on them. I also like it when it's warm out because then I can drink smoothies and iced tea. You actually have very good vocabulary I'm quite impressed. The thing I would say that you have trouble with is word order(syntax), but it's weird because I can read through it the first time and understand what you are saying perfectly but then I will read it again and notice something strange. It's something that time practice will fix. The best practice is probably reading, do you like to read books? I love to read! Here's a link to my profile http://www.facebook.com/hannah.dawson1
ReplyDeleteI'm really sad to see that you didn't write back this past week. It has been extremely busy and stressful for me with Finals coming up though. You probably have a lot of that to deal with too. Most of my finals are papers so it's hard to sit down and write, especially when you know that when you finish one paper you still have five more to go. Are your finals really troublesome this term? One of the things I started taking up this week to combat the stress is Judo. I randomly went to a class with my roommate and ended up falling in love with it. It's been a great help to take my mind off class and other responsibilities. What do you like to do to help ease the stress of finals? I wish you luck for these coming up weeks.
